Biography
Barry Yeow started his art journey rather late in his life. He has been gaining notice in recent years by the Singaporean media not only because of the talent he is able to show in his artworks that makes him a rising star in the art scene, but also his past life being in prison many times since teenage and was dramatically made reborn under the guidance of 2 mentors who are lecturers in art college and academy in Singapore.
His turning point started from 2011 when he got the award of best technique in the Yellow Ribbon Art Competition in Singapore, and few years later in 2016 he became Artisan of the Year which was awarded by Singapore Rotary Club. Following his growing fame in recent years, from 2015 to 2021 he did in total 24 exhibitions and mural projects in Singapore, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Turkey, as well as 2 virtual exhibitions online. In September 2019 he did an auction sale for charity with the Singapore president making a stroke on one of his artworks, and in the same month he was commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to present Donald Trump an artwork in the World Summit held in Singapore.
Barry is also interested in teaching art and has his students. He also likes to share what he experienced in life with people by getting involved in activities like talks, forums and workshops held in schools, prisons and hospital for 21 times from 2016 to 2020.
Over the past 12 years, his artworks have already been collected by private individuals, government agencies and commercial organizations from Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, Turkey, Portugal, UK, Mexico and USA.
Artwork Description
Barry’s artworks are more of abstract expression with brushstrokes showing very excellent techniques. By viewing his artwork one can immediately feel the power and strength of his brushstrokes and the vivid colours intermingling nicely as a whole picture. His latest series of paintings were done with “one stroke work” which means every line is just one stroke without lifting the brush, as well as “only one stroke with multiple colours all at once, so every stroke and execution is done by its feel” according to Barry. When you look at the lively paintings, they appear in such smooth and wonderfully combined colours as if they can talk you cannot imagine how Barry can make such magical strokes!
According to Barry, his abstract artworks were made with the interesting idea of “SEEING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING”, and making art is to “enjoy the process in expressing my feelings” which he sums up as “through expression to enter into the realm of freedom ”, and “to achieve such philosophical state as Everything is Emptiness but Emptiness is Colour (萬物皆空但空皆是色)”.

Barry開始他的藝術旅程有一點晚，但充滿傳奇。近年他受着星加坡媒體關注，不單是因為他於作品中展示的天份令他變成藝術界新星，更是因為他過去的人生，從少年時期起便多次進入監獄，但在得到兩位星加坡藝術學院講師的指導下很戲劇性地重生。
他的轉捩點始於2011年當他贏得了星加被Yellow Ribbon Art 最佳技巧獎項的時候，數年後於2016年他再獲得星加坡扶輪社年度藝術家獎。伴隨着他近年的名氣上升，於2015至2021年他於星加坡、緬甸、印尼、馬來西亞、菲律實及士耳其共做了24次展覽及壁畫項目，與及2次網上展覽。他於2019年9月也做了一次慈善拍賣，當中讓星加被總統在其畫作上揮了一筆；而同月又在星加坡政府外交部贊助下，他創作了一張畫作，贈送給當時來參加世界高峯會的美國總統特朗普。
Barry也喜歡教學並收納了門生，他亦喜歡和别人分享全命中所經歷的，因此從2016至2020，他共參與了21次在學校、監獄及醫院舉辦的講座、坐談會及工作坊。
過去12年間，他的作品獲得了來自星加坡、馬來西亞、中國、日本、土耳其、葡葡牙、英國、墨西哥及美國的私人、政府及商業機構收藏。

Barry的作品更多為抽象的表達並展現超卓的筆觸技巧。看到其作品會立即感到他的筆觸力量和勁度，生動的顏色美麗地互相混合構成整幅圖畫。他的畫作正是在炫耀其筆觸成就。近期他所繪畫的植物系列以“一筆過”繪畫每條線，與及根據Barry自己說 : “一筆過一次地繪出多重顏色，而每一次落筆都只是憑感覺” 。當你看着那些生動的植物以流暢又奇妙的混合顏色呈現着，猶如向你說話一樣，你會難以相像Barry究竟怎樣做出這魔幻筆觸的！
根據Barry所說，他的抽象畫作來自一個有趣的觀念，就是“從沒有中看到某物”，創作藝術是“享受表達自己感覺的過程”，正如他總結說：“透過表達走入了自由境界”，及 “達至哲學上一種萬物皆空但空皆是色的狀態” 。
